Yes, this song is old now. But seriously, how can anyone deny the power of pop music for good when something like this tops the charts?

Bout to get real analytical.

If the power this song and its exposure holds in our society is not apparent to you, chew on this. What are the first songs you remember hearing? Do you remember the ones that had a real impact on you? It was either something your parents played or something from the radio. There is a whole generation of adolescents right now who are hearing music through young, hungry ears, and this, as a #1 song, is one that they are all hearing. (Remember how impossible it was to escape the Backstreet Boys?) And not only are they hearing it, they are hearing it all the time. The implicit message they get from hearing it all the time is that it must be popular. And therefore, what he’s saying is also popular.

A whole generation is coming of age with things like this. Thank god.

It’s been a while, but who other than Queen Ri could inspire me to come back? (Hi Katie!)

Speaking of, it’s been a WHILE since this single was released too. But I guess when you’re Rihanna you can do whatever the f*ck you want.

I have two thoughts:

1. Miley, this is how it’s done. We all know you’re just trying to be Rihanna and honey, it ain’t gonna happen. WE ALL REMEMBER HANNAH MONTANA DAWG. No matter how much of yo ass cheeks we see on the TV. Plus, no one can be Rihanna like Rihanna can.

2. I don’t even remember what my second thought was now. Oh yah… Can you straight up see one of her nipples when she’s wearing that rhinestone semi bra thing that honestly looks kind of painful, or am I trippin’?

I liked the blue chick with the gold bikini too.

I just wrote this whole post without once mentioning twerking. HA. May the general public’s obsession with twerking die just as quickly as Miley’s career will. (I hope.) (She will never have another song anywhere near as good as “Party in the U.S.A.”)(miss you kind of old Miley?)

What did I just watch? Was I in 1999 for a second there? Also this sounds like a Die Antwoord song.

Drake – Wu-Tang Forever »

So it’s like an angrier version of Marvin’s Room…

Nice little taste of Nothing Was The Same.

Cody ChestnuTT

This past weekend, Portland hosted the annual Musicfest Northwest . 6 Days of constant shows in all genres at every available venue in the city, it was paradise. To be honest, I had heard of probably only 3 out of the 165 shows going into the festival, but let be real, that’s the best situation. You get to fall in love with new music and new artists. WIN.

I was lucky enough to hit up about 5 shows and by far my favorite was Cody ChestnuTT who has been featured on Dave Chappell and played with the Roots. He was such an engaging performer/entertainer and his songs just made you so happy to be there with that $8 whiskey ginger in your hand.

And his bass player, Jeffrey Bass Gaines, was a kick to chat with after the show.

Definitely check out his soulful Al Green/Marvin sound. You will NOT regret it.

KT on Kiss Land »

Hi Blair. So, I’m bringing us back to life… ha, HEY!

…Anyway, if you know me at all, you know that only The Weeknd has the power to resurrect my blogging. Aaaaaaand Kiss Land dropped yesterday, so my mind has been in trippy-R&B heaven for the past 24 hours. YEEE.

Overall, the album is what you probably expected. Nothing strays from his usual sound. Even Drake has his default cameo. But if you are like me and love his soulful, brokenhearted, come-down sound, then you’re a happy kid. And we can always appreciate that one song with an extra MJ vibe, (like D.D.) which this time around is Wanderlust and will be the soundtrack to my life for the indefinite future.

If I were to change one thing, I have to say that I wish there were a few more guest appearances. Though Abel’s voice is amazing and we can always count on Drake, it’s good to spice up the sound. Even hearing the Juicy J say 2 sentences at the end of Same Old Song on Echoes of Silence was welcomed.

So ya, provided is the full stream and track list provided by the beloved Hypetrak.com. Go dig.
