"We Up"- 50 Cent ft. Kendrick Lamar and Kidd Kidd

First of all who is Kidd Kidd?

Second, isn’t it strange that we now live in an age of two music videos? Artists have started releasing a “lyrics video” along with the single, then following up with the official video later. However, the lyrics videos are usually just that, stylized words on a screen. This is the first one I’ve seen that features the actual artists. I mean, this is a music video in itself! Honestly, I didn’t realize that it wasn’t the actual video until it said “Official Video Coming Soon” at the end. (Note: I really like this video. The whole world should be in black and white with red and gold accents. Plus, cool shots of champagne bottles poppin!)

I mean the two videos approach makes sense, in a time when a shit load of the music we listen to is on Youtube. It used to be fans who would make their own lyrics videos and post them before the official video was released. Music labels had the annoying habit of shutting those down, so there were always a million for any given song, and it was always a crapshoot which would work and which wouldn’t. Well, at least the labels recognized the demand and started making their own. Touché. Guess they aren’t all evil.

I’ve only listened to the song once and I feel… just ok about it.

YOLO. Not the Drake version. Thank you Andy, The Other Guy, Kendrick, Kenny, and Adam. This was long overdue!

"Fuckin Problems"- A$AP Rocky, 2 Chainz, Kendrick Lamar and (Drake)

I am choosing to ignore that Drake is in this song cuz he sucks but I really love this. It’s been stuck in my head for going on 4 days or so now.

A$AP and Kendrick are somehow able to make matching ensembles look swag as hell. They’re my 2012 fashion icons.

And then there’s Drake’s blue tee and shades that he couldnt pull off in a million years. (Yah, I’m a hater. Deal.) But then Kendrick brings it all back with that fucking leather t-shirt! Holy shit.

Sometimes I can’t decide what I love more, fashion or hip-hop. That’s my fuckin problem. Well… I like to fuck too.

Other random thoughts: I have a huge crush on A$AP. I wish 2 Chainz had an actual verse on this instead of Drake who shall henceforth be referred to as rapper non grata. Whoever chose the font they used at the beginning of the video should be shot. Best line: “They say money make a nigga act nigger-ish, but at least a nigga nigga-rich.” Now that’s some Kanye-ass shit, A$AP.

edit: a radio-friendly version of this song is going to be SUPER necessary.

Hall Of Game: Classic Material »

Pitchfork wrote about what being a “classic” hip-hop album means. It makes for a good listening list if nothing else.

Remember how Lady Gaga was supposed to be on Kendrick’s new album? Well she didnt submit her vocals in time to make it, but here it is.

I love LG an irrational amount and it pains me to say this, but honestly, I prefer the album version. Her vocals are a little flat, no emotion, etc., in short, they don’t add anything. Thoughts?

Kendrick Lamar ft. Drake- “Poetic Justice”

You guys… I do not like Drake. I just don’t see the appeal. So it’s really hard for me to come to terms with the fact that this is my fave song from “Good Kid M.A.A.D. City.” BUT it is. I even sort of like Drake’s verse. Mostly cuz it barely sounds like him. This beat just owns errthang.
